Telluride



Below is your view from the free Gondola ride down into Telluride. From the San Sophia station (the highest point of the Gondola) it's 1790 feet down into Telluride. The views are simply outstanding. Parking can be hard to find in Telluride, so it's recommended to park in Mountain Village above Telluride and take the Gondola into town. We spent a good six hours of our day in Telluride. We enjoyed breakfast, shopping, hanging out at the local park with snacks, and finished the day off with lunch and one more trip on the Gondola circuit before leaving.

You can see the Telluride airport on the left side of the picture next to the pine tree.


In the picture below you may be able to make out a waterfall in the center of the picture just below the snow pack. It's Bridal Veil falls, 365 feet. You can drive or hike there, when there is less snow on the road.

We highly recommend a visit to Telluride.  The free gondola ride down into Telluride made us feel like we were descending into a town in the Swiss Alps. Telluride is a high dollar town for real estate and shopping, but we found the food prices to be reasonable.

  Our preference to backpack Aravaipa Canyon is via the east entrance which is 149 miles by car (3 hrs) or, 50 miles as-the-crow-flies.  Our adventure opens with the normal visit to Klondyke AZ...pop 12. We always drop in on the folks who run the small store and make a purchase. It's the kind of place where the dusty screen door slamming behind you wakes the storekeeper snoozing behind the counter. Reaching the east trailhead and Turkey Creek requires driving across the creek about a half dozen times. 🍁 To Canada & Beyond......Part 1

      Long time no post! Thanks for checking out the blog.       We ended our summer position at Priest Gulch Campground on Sunday September 29th at about 3 pm and hit the road by 4 pm. First stop:  Durango, Colorado. Next morning, onto Canton New York (2,159 miles). Why Canton NY you say? "Stayin Alive" in Northern California

Harris Ranch Resort (stock internet picture) Our roots didn't have time to settle much from our NY trip when, three weeks later, we hitched up "The Villa" (small travel trailer) and headed to northern California. An hours' drive from San Francisco is Sebastopol; our dear friend Steve lives there as a SOWER-on-assignment (sowerministry.org). It was our intent to spend the week's time visiting without sightseeing. We allowed 3-days/2-nights to travel to Sebastopol. One night's stop was Harris Ranch Resort: resort/restaurant/cattle ranch 🐄. We enjoyed a Prime Rib dinner (😊) and parked for the night as permittable. The next day, we completed our trek to Sebastopol but first, stopped for lunch at a favorite Chinese restaurant in Dublin, CA - "The Mayflower".
