Highway 78 Arizona 2 New Mexico


 The view from the NM side at the top of the pass on highway 78 looking west back into Arizona. The road has strong warnings of "No vehicles over 40 ft". We weren't sure so we stopped and asked at a corner po-dunk store at Three-way. The clerk assured us that our 38 ft motorhome pulling our Honda CRV could make it. What a beautiful drive, a little steep, narrow and curvy, but no danger whatsoever. Highly recommended and pretty sure almost any RV can make the drive.

Birthday/North Loop

Rick created a 4-day/3-night loop trip: 566 miles  We started out early Monday July 8th, on Rick's birthday. We make every effort to support local restaurants (vs. franchises) however, we tried a new place called "Starvin Arvin's" - JETHRO SIZED PORTIONS!!! Rick's breakfast ham rested on the rim of his plate! Noreen chose a cinnamon roll as her side-option.  We stopped at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park outside Montrose for a few hours before we headed up north on a scenic drive to McClure pass. Night-One: McClure Pass, dispersed camping. Dispersed camping is free camping with no facilities of any kind on BLM or Forest service land. Day-2, Noreen's birthday (July 9th)  Marble, CO: breakfast @ "The Inn at Raspberry Ridge". The Inn had such a cool vibe, just a handful of folks around. 🍁 To Canada & Beyond......Part 1

      Long time no post! Thanks for checking out the blog.       We ended our summer position at Priest Gulch Campground on Sunday September 29th at about 3 pm and hit the road by 4 pm. First stop:  Durango, Colorado. Next morning, onto Canton New York (2,159 miles). Why Canton NY you say? Because our longtime dear SOWER friends (Joe & Kim) reside there and invited us and, now that we're retired we can do that!                                                                    Joe & Kim     Diving a 38'  motorhome and pulling a car takes just a wee bit more endurance than just a passenger car so, we broke our driving down into two segments per day. 29 Mile Hike!! San Juan Hut Systems

                      What this heck is this out here in the middle of nowhere on a mountaintop!? We came across this hut on a previous trip over Bolam Pass. It seemed out of place in the middle of the forest where there aren't any cabins for miles.    This is how we learned about the "San Juan Hut Systems"...   Game on!    We called and booked our 5-day/4-night, 29 mile trek across the Sneffels Wilderness - so named for the 14,158' signature peak Mt. Sneffels (which Rick wants to climb).  Below is a map of the traverse. The starting point and where the outfitters dropped us off is on the left, Alder Creek trailhead.
